From EPFL to Tune Insight
Driven by a core challenge: advancing medicine while keeping data confidential.

The story of Tune Insight begins with a simple yet fundamental observation: in the health sector, data is both an invaluable asset and a sensitive resource to manipulate. Their use is crucial to advancing medical research, developing new treatments and improving care. However, legitimate concerns about confidentiality, strict regulations and ethical issues are holding back progress.

Faced with this paradox Tune Insight founders decided to act. They asked themselves a daring question: what if we could access knowledge without directly manipulating the data?
In 2021 at EPFL’s Data Security Laboratory, our four co-founders developed the foundations for a secure solution that combines homomorphic encryption, multi-party computing, differential privacy and federated learning which is how Tune Insight began.

  • Federated Health Data Space

    Implementation of a federated health data platform for secure analysis.
    The Federated Health Data Space (FHDS) is a cutting-edge project that aims to create a secure and federated analysis of health data in Switzerland. This project implemented in the main university and cantonal hospitals of the country is the culmination of a series of innovative initiatives, involving closely Tune Insight and SPHN which began with the SPO/BioRef prototype projects laying the foundations for unique collaboration between health institutions.

  • TI4PEC

    Improving Pediatric Emergency Care through Federated Analysis
    The aim of the TI4PEC project is to create a sophisticated federated analysis platform that allows researchers to carry out complex analyses on pediatric health data while preserving patient confidentiality. This project is being carried out in collaboration with member hospitals of the Pediatric Emergency Research Network (PERN) in Switzerland and Italy, with the aim of improving paediatric emergency care internationally.

    The PHASE IV AI consortium relies on Tune Insight
    The PHASE IV AI consortium is working towards creating an all-European Health Data Hub, a safe ecosystem for sharing healthcare data in accordance with the future European Health Data Area (EHDS). This project aims to revolutionize the use of health data while meeting the highest standards of privacy and security in order to promote the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in health. The solutions developed under PHASE IV AI will be tested in real-world scenarios including lung cancer, prostate cancer and ischemic stroke. PHASE IV AI will be conducted in collaboration with several leading health and research stakeholders.
